1. find the amount of extra hours hilga worked: 57.5-40=17.5

2. her total money = 11.25x + 8.5y
(x being hours, y being extra hours)

3. plug in the hours: 11.25(40) + 8.5(17.5)

4. do the math, finding the total of $598.75
