The equation of the function is 3x+1 so you plug 2 into that equation. 3(2)+1=7 so the answer is 7. I think the second part of the question is trying to throw you off by adding unnecessary information because it put the function to the -1 degree which has no relation. Hopefully this is correct and helps!
