we know that

In the figure the triangle VLM is a right triangle, because VL is pependicular to YM

so


YV=VM=12/2=6\ in

LM is the radius of the circle (hypotenuse of triangle VLM)


VL=5\ in

Applying the Pythagoras Theorem


LM^(2)=VM^(2)+VL^(2)

substitute


LM^(2)=6^(2)+5^(2)


LM^(2)=61


LM=7.8\ in ------> is the radius
