Solution

For this case we can create the following notation:

x = one side

2x = the side of the second side

16= side of the third side

The perimeter for this case is 160 ft

And then we can create the following equation:

160 = 2x + x + 16

And then we can solve for x

160 = 3x + 16

144= 3x

x = 144/3 = 48 ft

Then the shortest side for this case is:

48 ft
