The city buses that run in your neighborhood stop every 12 minutes. The first bus arrives at 5:00 am for passengers. You get to the bus stop at 8:37 am. How long will you have to wait for a bus?

Find the number of minutes between 5:00am and 8:37am
60 mins in an hour.
8-5=3 hours
60x3=180+37=217 minutes
Divide 217 by 12 to see how many bus stops have already been made
217/12=18
18*12=216
217-216=1 minute
12-1=11 minutes
Therefore you will have to wait 11 minutes.
Hope this helps!

Answer:

11 minutes.

Explanation:

We have been given that the city buses that run in your neighborhood stop every 12 minutes. The first bus arrives at 5:00 am for passengers. You get to the bus stop at 8:37 am.

First of all, we will find the time between 5:00 am and 8:37 am.

There are 3 hours and 37 minutes between 5:00 am and 8:37 am.

3* 60\text{ minutes}=180\text{ minutes}

180\text{ minutes}+37\text{ minutes}=217\text{ minutes}

Since buses stop every 12 minutes, so we will find the greatest multiple of 12 from 217 as:

217=12* 18+1

This means that bus has passed just one minute before, therefore, we have to wait for another 11 minutes for the next bus.
