A cone shaped hat is shown:

What is the approximate height of the hat?

A: 2.79 centimeters, because height = Square root of the difference of 14 and 6.2
B: 4.49 centimeters, because height = Square root of the sum of 14 and 6.2
C: 12.55 centimeters, because height = Square root of the difference of squares of 14
and 6.2
D: 15.31 centimeters, because height = Square root of the sum of the squares of 14 and
6.2

Answer: C: 12.55 centimeters, because height = Square root of the difference of squares of 14 and 6.2

Explanation:

Here the radius of the hat = 6.2 cm

And, the slant height of the hat = 14 cm

Since, By the Pythagoras theorem,

(\text{Height})^2 = (\text{ Slant height})^2 -(\text{Radius})^2

(\text{Height})^2 = (14)^2 -(6.2)^2

(\text{Height})^2 = 196 - 38.44 = 157.56

\text{Height} = √(157.56)=12.5522906276\approx 12.55\text{ cm}

Hence, Option C is correct.
