Sue's teacher asked her to find 42.6 divided by ten to the power of two. How many places and in which direction should Sue move the decimal point to get the correct quotient?

Answer: she will move it twice towards the left direction

Explanation:

10 to the power of 2 is 100

42.6/100 = 0.426

Whenever you are dividing by hundred, when you shift the decimal once to the left, one of the zero will go away, when you shift the decimal again to the left the remaining zero will go away.

So, when 42.6 is divided by 100, Sue should move the decimal 2 places to the left (before the 4).
