Given the system of equations:

y=x-1 \\ y=-2x+5

We solve the system as follows:

Step 1: Since both equations are in terms of y, we equate both equations to get:

x-1=-2x+5

Next, we collect like terms, and solve for x, to get:

x+2x=5+1 \\ \\ 3x=6 \\ \\ x= (6)/(3) =2

Next, we substitute for x into any of the previous eguations, substituting for x into the first equation, we get:

y=2-1=1

Therefore, the solution to the system of equations is (2, 1)
