Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction in which only a single organism or parent gives rise to the offspring. It is usually practiced by single-celled organisms such as bacteria, archaea et cetera. Sometimes, plants and fungi also reproduce asexually.

It does not include meiosis and fusion of gametes. Thus, the offspring produced are exactly the same as the parent and are called clone. In addition, they also lack genetic variation in a population due to the absence of meiosis and fertilization.
