I believe Thoreau's advice or words of wisdom on ownership of land or property is that ownership of these properties is more of a burden to the owner as against having the freedom that comes with out ownership. As in a the case of house or land property one needs to pay taxes, maintenance cost and basic upkeep of the property . Owning property does not equate to happiness but owning none means one has more freedom to enjoy the simple things in life
