For the graph y = -8 find the slope of a line that is perpendicular to it and the slope of a line parallel to it. Explain your answer with two or more sentences.

line y=-8 is a horizontal line, so the line perpendicular to it will have

no slope;

and the line parallel to it will also have 0 slopes because horizontal lines have a slope of 0.

The perpendicular slope would be the opposite of -8, so the perpendicular slope would be 1/8. For you to get this answer you have to change the sign from a negative to a positive, and flip the number to get 1/8.
