Hey there!

Substitute the
by itself as a
1

Our problem becomes:
-(1)/(6)a + 8 = 12

Make sure we get everything away from the fraction (including
) by subtracting
8 on each of your sides!

Like:
-(1)/(6)a + 8 - 8 \\ =12 - 8

Cancel the two
8's

Our problem becomes:
-(1)/(6)a = 4

Now we have to multiply by
6 on each of your sides

Like:
6( -(1)/(6)a) \\ (6)/(-1) (4)

Cancel the
6's on the left side

a = -24

Good luck on your assignment and enjoy your day!
