The Europeans quickly adopted a colonization process, enslaving people and taking away most of the key raw materials demanded in the European markets.

Properly speaking European exploration of Sub-Saharan Africa started with the Age of Discovery in the 15th century, led by Portugal under Henry the Navigator. As they explored a new Sea route India , they discovered also routes to the Far East.
