How can the additive inverse be used to evaluate the problem below? –3 – (–6)

additive inverse means adding the inverse is same as subtracting the other (???)


-3-(-6)=-3+6=3

For the set of all real numbers we find that additive identity is 0 such that


x+0 = 0+x =x for all x in R

and inverse of x is -x for all x in R

Using this here we want to subtract -6 from -3

Instead of subtracting -3 we can add 3 the additive inverse of -3

Hence


-3 - (-6)=-3+6\\=+3
