According to Erikson, if a child fails to succeed in learning a new skill and gain knowledge this child may develop a sense of inferiority. This is basically a sense of general inadequacy that is unrealistic. It can be caused by either real or supposed inferiority in ones life, and sometimes can be marked by an aggressive compensation behavior.
