If Cody has 12 muffins and keeps 6, he'll have 6 left. So, if he has 6 muffins left and 6 friends, then each friend would get 1 muffin.

1 muffin per person. 12-6 is 6 muffins and he has 6 friends so divide the amount of muffins per person, 1 for each.
