the ratio of jane to maria's income is 8.5.if jane's income is $4.00 what is maria's income?How much greater is jane's income compared to maria's?Explain.

\bf \cfrac{Jane}{Maria}\qquad 8:5\qquad \cfrac{8}{5}\qquad \qquad \cfrac{\stackrel{Jane}{4}}{\stackrel{Maria}{m}}=\cfrac{8}{5}\implies \cfrac{4\cdot 5}{8}=m\implies \cfrac{5}{2}=m \\\\\\ 2(1)/(2)=m

how much greater is it? well, 2 and 1/2 is just 2.5, what's 4 - 2.5? that much.
