If a little girl who used to call all cats "doggie" changes and begins to label cats correctly, a cognitive theorist would say that she has experienced Accommodation. Accommodation takes place when a new scheme is created to deal with a new experience, for example when a child stops naming a new experience with a familiar label and begins to label it correctly.
