Closed awareness identifies the type of awareness context in which the patient or individual is unaware of his or her impending death. This includes active participation of the medical staff, family and friends to divert attention and mislead the patient into believing a form of false optimism. Closed awareness also prevents the patient from properly wrapping up his or affairs, like creating a will or saying goodbyes to loved ones and friends.
