To get the slope of the line, we simply need to pick two points on the line.
The two points can be any point so far they lie in the line.
Let us pick out the two points now;
Take a look at the line, it crosses the x-axis at a point, it also crosses the y-axis at a point.
These two points are good points to find the slope of the line;
The line crosses the y-axis at the point y = 8 and also crosses the x-axis at the point x = 5
The coordinate of the point at which the line intercepts the y-axis is (0,8) while the coordinate of the point at which the line crosses the x-axis is (5,0)
Mathematically, the slope of the line can be calculated with the equation;
m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)
where (x1,y1) = (0,8) and (x2,y2) = (5,0)
So therefore, our slope m is;
m = (0-8)/(5-0) = -8/5 = -1.6
The slope of the line is -1.6
Mathematically, the rise refers to the vertical change while the run refers to the horizontal change.
To plot these segments, simply identify the points used in the calculation of the slope.
