The formula of the area of a rectangle is

A=L* W

where L is the length and W is the width

we have

L(x)=2x-4

W(x)=x+3

we substitute the expression

A(x)=(2x-4)(x+3)

then we do the multiplication between the binomials

A(x)=(2x\cdot x)+(2x\cdot3)+(-4\cdot x)+(-4\cdot3)
A(x)=2x^2+6x-4x-12

we sum similar terms and we obtain the final expression

A(x)=2x^2+2x-12
