The relationship between American colonial radicals and contemporary political radicals in Great Britain was related to the Puritan revolution. The writings of both Trenchard and Gordon chastised the British government for corruption and taxation for armies that were not defending the soil of Great Britain, but more to attack their colonies. Their writings also blamed the government for government patronage.
