A water park charges a rental fee plus $1.50 per hour to rent inflatable rafts. The total cost to rent a raft for 6 hours is $15. Assume the relationship is linear. Find and interpret the rate of change and the initial value.

6*1.50= 9

We know the initial fee is 6 dollars. The rate of change is 1.50, since it changes that much in one hour.

Answer: The rate of change is 1.50 and the initial value would be $6.

Explanation:

Let x be the number of hours.

Let y be the rental fee.

Cost per hour = $1.50

According to question,

1.5x+y

here, number of hours = 6

Total cost = $15

So, it becomes,

15=1.5* 6+y\\\\15=9+y\\\\15-9=y\\\\\$\ 6=y

Since the relationship is linear.

So, if we compare it with y=mx+c

here, m is the rate of change.

So, m = 1.50

Hence, the rate of change is 1.50 and the initial value would be $6.
