Bernie baked a berry pie. The recipe called for 5 ounces of blackberries, 8 ounces ofraspberries, and 9 ounces of strawberries. In the supermarket, he only found 12-ouncecontainers of berries. He bought 1 container of each kind of berry. After he baked the pie,how many ounces of berries did Bernie have left?

The pie baked by Bernie has a total of 5+8+9=22 ounces of berries. In the supermarket he gought three containers of 12 ounces so he bought:

3\cdot12=36

So Bernie bought 36 ounces of berries and only used 22 ounces. The remaining ounces are given by the difference between these two quantities:

36-22=14

Then the answer is 14 ounces.
