There are 40 houses in a neighborhood. Company X provides electricity to 1/8 of the houses. Company Y provides electricity to 2/5 of the houses. Company Z provides electricity to the remaining houses. In this neighborhood, company Z provides electricty to -

j is the answer because 1/8 of the houses is 5 2/5 of 40 is 16 and 16 +5 =21 40-21 =19

So, Number of houses Company X provide electricity is:
(1)/(8)*40 = 5

and, Number of houses Company X provide electricity is:
(2)/(5)*40 = 16

Hence total number of houses Company Z provide electricity is: 40 - (5 + 16) = 40 - 21 = 19

⇒ Total number of houses Company Z provide electricity = 19

Thus, Option (J) is correct.
