What are the 5 functions of the skeletal system and give a description of each?

Support: Provides structural support for the entire body

Protection: Surrounds soft tissue. For example the ribs and sternum protect the heart and lungs like the skull protects the brain.

Movement: Skeletal muscle is attached to the bones so it pulls on the bone when it contracts

Mineral Storage: storage of minerals

Blood cell production: red bone marrow produces red blood cells, white blood cells and other blood elements
