What happened at Breed’s Hill and Bunker Hill? Why was it significant?

A large battle. It was significant because the colonists wanted to retake the city of Boston but they heard that British troops where going to retake unoccupied hills surrounding the city to strengthen the cities defense against a continental attack. However, the colonists heard of this and sent about 1,000 men to take the hill before the British do and they also constructed a there defenses. The British became aware of this and attacked bunker/breeds hill. It was a British "victory" because they managed to take the hill but the British took large numbers of casualties and damaging there army quite a lot. This made the British more cautious in future battles in the war.

1) The Americans fought with the British. The redcoats assembled at Breed's Hill. Bayonets drawn, they charged. Americans opened fire, forcing the British to retreat. Twice more the redcoats charged, receiving furious fire from above. Finally, the Americans ran out of gunpowder and had to withdraw.

2)The Battle of Bunker Hill, or Breed's Hill, constituted the first major battle of the American Revolution(1775-1783). Although the British accomplished their objective, they did so at a heavy cost. This moral victory united the Americans in their opposition to the British.
