During glycolysis, 2 ATP molecules are needed to start the process. After this process is done, it produces 4 ATP molecules
However, think of this as "profit." This process actually produced 2 ATP net molecules, meaning how much it actually produced. this is because 2 ATP molecules were already needed to start this process.
