A compound microscope uses TWO CONVEX LENSES TO MAGNIFY A SMALL OBJECT.
A compound microscope is an optical instrument for forming magnified image of small objects. The eyepieces of a compound microscope is made up of two planoconvex lenses that have a circular diaphragm between them. These two convex lenses magnify the image of a small object 1000 times when one is using a compound microscope.
