The Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, signed on February 2, 1848, was the treaty that ended the Mexican-American War. The treaty also settled the territorial disputes between the United States and Mexico. The two major features of the treaty were:
- 525,000 square miles were taken away from Mexico by the United States, including parts of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
- Mexico gave up all claims to Texas, recognizing the Rio Grande as their northern border.
