Mary’s yard is a mess. She needs to hire someone to prune her trees and shrubs. A landscaping service she calls quotes her a price of $15 consultation fee plus $8 an hour for the actual work. Mary’s neighbor has offered to help her out. She doesn’t charge a consultation fee, but does charge $10 an hour for her work.

Who do you think Mary should hire for a 3-hour job and why?

$8 x 3 = $24
$15 + $24 = $39
The landscaping service costs $39

$10 x 3 = $30
Mary's neighbour costs $30

She should choose her neighbour because she is cheaper.

Hope I helped!

Answer:

Mary should hire her neigbor because it costs $9 less than to hire the landscaping service. The cost of the landscaping service is $39 and the cost to hire her neighbor is only $30.

Explanation:

Landscaping service cost = consultation fee + (hourly rate X hours worked)

Landscaping service cost = $15 + ($8 X 3)

Landscaping service cost = $15 + $24

Landscaping service cost = $39

Cost to hire neighbor = hourly rate X hours worked

Cost to hire neighbor= $10 X 3

Cost to hire neighbor = $30

Mary should hire her neigbor because it costs $9 less than to hire the landscaping service.
