The republican party was formed by Anti-Slavery activist, modernizers, ex whigs, ex free soilers, the republican party quickly became the principal opposition to the dominant democratic party and the briefly popular know Nothing Party.

i believe the best answer choice is B. Anti-Federalists, nativists, and free-soilers

Anti-Federalists: A person who opposed the ratification of the Constitution in 1789 and thereafter allied with Thomas Jefferson's Anti-federal Party, which opposed extensions of the powers of the federal Government.

Nativists: A policy of favoring native inhabitants as opposed to immigrants; the revival or perpetuation of an indigenous culture especially in opposition to acculturation.

Free-soilers: part of the know nothing group.
