The immigrants were from
China.
They were discriminated by some Americans because they did not understand their culture. They had to face prejudice and violence. The US government created a Chinese Exclusion Act which did not allow them to enter the country. They were prohibited for almost 10 years and it did not allow Chinese people living in America become citizens
