Question 1:

We have the following equation

a+\$5.92=\$12.29

We are asked what is the solution to this equation.

Let us solve this equation for a

Subtract $5.92 to both sides of the equation and simplify

\begin{gathered} a+\$5.92-\$5.92=\$12.29-\$5.92 \\ a=6.37 \end{gathered}

As you can see, the solution to this equation is $6.37

The goal in such kind of questions is to separate the variable

Question 2:

We have the following equation

(42)/(j)=6

We need to solve the equation for variable j

In the first step, the variable j in the division gets multiplied to the other side of the equation

\begin{gathered} (42)/(j)=6 \\ 42=6j \end{gathered}

In the second step, the 6 gets divided to the other side of the equation

\begin{gathered} 42=6j \\ (42)/(6)=j \\ 7=j \end{gathered}

Therefore, the solution to the equation is 7
