Katie selected a pair of shoes for the regular price of $120. After the 20% off discount is applied, what will be the discounted cost of the shoes (before tax)? Justify your answer using equations, models, and/or words to explain your mathematical reasoning.

The discounted price would be 96.
To get this answer you have to take 120 and multiply it by 0.20 ( you turn the percent into a decimal btw) . After you multiply this you get $24. Since this is a discount you take 120 and subtract it by 24 and get it $96 without the tax.

Hey there!

First, find out how much they took off by multiplying
120*.2= 24
$24 were taken off, Now subtract 24 from 120
120-24= 96
So the price is $96 after the discount was applied
