Mrs. Smith paid $125 to have her hair colored and cut. If she tips her hairdresser 15% of her bill, how much was the tip? Mrs. Cowley paid $104 to have her hair colored and cut. If she tips her hairdresser 20% of her bill, how much was the tip? Who got the better deal on the haircut? How do you know?

Mrs Smith:

15% of 125= $18.75 tip.
Her total cost was $125 + $18.75 which equals $143.75

Mrs Cowley:

20% of 104= $20.80 tip.
Her total cost was $104 + $20.80 which equals $124.80

So Mrs Cowley got the best deal as she paid $18.95 less.

Hope this helps :)
