Given:

To rent a certain meeting room, a college charges a reservation fee of $39 and an additional fee of $8.40 per hour.

Let the number of hours = t and the total fee = F

So,

F\ge8.4t+39

The chemistry club wants to spend less than $72.60 on renting the meeting room.

So, substitute with F = 72.6 and solve for t

\begin{gathered} 72.6\ge8.4t+39 \\ 72.6-39\ge8.4t \\ 33.6\ge8.4t \\ (33.6)/(8.4)\ge t \\ \\ 4\ge t \end{gathered}

so, the answer will be time should not exceed 4 hours
