Read the passage. Armando sat on the couch. Everyone else seemed to be having fun. He hated parties. Like an oyster, he closed his shell, and wouldn’t talk to anyone. Which figure of speech, or literary device, does the author use in the passage?

The figure of speech that the author used in the passage is simile. The excerpt represented above contains comparison of two things. You may mistakenly assume that it is a metaphor, but only simile employs such comparing words as 'as', and 'like'. And the sentence that is made up of a simile is 'Like an oyster, he closed his shell, and wouldn’t talk to anyone. '
