When the human body sustains force, there is the potential to strengthen body tissues or injure them. A previously sedentary middle age adult wants to initiate a running program as a way to improve his cardiovascular fitness. As a fitness specialist/personal trainer what advice should you provide to the individual to reduce the risk of sustaining a mechanical stress-related injury?

First, warm up and stretch for five to ten minutes (walk, slow jog, flexibility exercises) .
Slowly increase running time as stamina increases. (may take 4-8 weeks)
Make sure to wear proper footwear & socks
Perform a PAR-Q (physical activity readiness questionnaire) before beginning any type of program
Don’t run every day (bad on knees)
