A biology class has a total of 27 students. The number of males is 17 more than the number of females. How many males and how many females are in the class?

Let the number of males in the class = x
Number of females in the class= x-17

x+x-17=27
2x=44
x=22
x-17=5
There are 22 males and 5 females.
