first year: 40
second year: 40*0.15 (-> 15%) = 6

Let

x-------> extra iris blooms Savanna's had this year

we know that

15\%=(15)/(100)=0.15

x=0.15*40=6\ iris\ blooms

therefore

the answer is

6\ iris\ blooms
