Hi! In Tolstoy's "How Much Land Does a Man Need", Pahom is the *protagonist" and the devil is an "antagonist".    Just think of it this way.  Has anyone ever told you to stop antagonizing someone when you were bothering or trying to get a rise out of them? That's the antagonist in a story....usually the bad guy.   The protagonist is the one that the reader usually sympathizes with.  I remember it like I'm pro whoever. In this case, I'd be Pro Pahom.  Hope that helps.
