6b - 2b + 8 = 2 + 6b......simplify the left side
4b + 8 = 2 + 6b....subtract 2, subtract 4b...from both sides
-2 + 8 = 6b - 4b...simplify
6 = 2b....divide both sides by 2
6/2 = b...simplify
3 = b <=== voila :)

6b - 2b + 8 = 2 + 6b

6b - 2b = 4b

4b + 8 = 2 + 6b

4b (-4b) + 8 = 2 + 6b (-4b)

8 = 2 + 2b

8 (-2)= 2b + 2 (-2)

6 = 2b

6/2 = 2b/b

b = 3

hope this helps
