When she takes responsibility for the garden she proves that her character is hard working, caring, responsible, and patient because it takes these qualities to care for and manage a garden. When she starts getting the hang of being a farmer's wife and learns more about what it requires, she establishes her vegetable garden, and then she makes sure to work hard and laboriously to care for it. It is inferred and concluded from this by how vividly the garden is described that Rukmani loves and cherishes the earth, and receives strength or stability from its beauty and charms. Her character also must be loving and devoted considering how tender one must be to care for a garden.
