A dishwasher salesman whose base pay plus commissions amount to $30,605 last year earned a commission of 12.5% on each dishwasher sold. If each dishwasher he sold cost $1100 and if his base pay was $28,680, how much dishwashers did the salesman sell last year?

Answer: D. 14

Explanation:

Given: The base pay of salesman = $28,680

The percent of commission on each dishwasher sold = 12.5% =0.125

The cost of each dishwasher sold = $1100

Then the equation models the situation to find the total earning (y) for total cost of dishwasher (x) is given by :-


y=28680+0.125x

Since, The base pay plus commissions of sales man= $30,605

Then ,we have


30605 =28680+12.5x\\\\\Rightarrow\ 12.5x=1925\\\\\Rightarrow x=(1925)/(0.125)=15400

Since, cost of each dishwasher sold= $1100

Therefore, the number of dishwasher he sold =
(15400)/(1100)=14
