SOLUTION:

Step 1:

In this question, we are to find the number of 3-digit telephone area codes possible if each digit can be from 0-9.

Step 2:

The digits here are; 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Ten digits in all.

Step 3:

Out of these 10 digits, we are interested in 3-digit at a time, e.g 214, 719, 604, etc.

Step 4:

With the understanding of step 3, there are 10 ways of selecting a number.

For the first number (10 ways), the Second number (10 ways), and the third number (10 ways), which is 10 x 10 x 10 = 1000

CONCLUSION:

The number of possible ways 3-digit telephone area codes, if each digit can be from 0-9 is therefore 1,000 ways.
