The population of one city was about 230,000 in 2010. The population of the city is projected to be about 190,000 in 2020. Find the percent decrease. Please make sure you round to the nearest tenth of a percent. I have been verifying answers and they’ve been wrong.

Answer:

Given that,

The population of one city was about 230,000 in 2010.

The population of the city is projected to be about 190,000 in 2020.

Decreased population is,

=230000-190000
=40000

The percent decrease is,

=\frac{decreased\text{ population}}{initial\text{ population}}*100

Substituting the values we get,

=(40000)/(230000)*100=17.391\text{ \%}

Rounding it to nearest tenth of a percent, we get

=17.4\text{ \%}

Answer is: 17.4%
