re-write
8x + 14y = 4 (1)
-6x - 7y = -10 (2)

multiply (1) by 3 and (2) by 4
now you have
24x + 42y = 12
-24x - 28y = -40
-------------------------add
14y = -28
y = -2

8x + 14y = 4
8x + 14(-2) = 4
8x - 28 = 4
8x = 32
x = 4

answer
x = 4 and y= -2
