6 + 7(b-1) = 5 + b
6 + 7b - 7 = 5 + b
7b - 1 = 5 + b
7b (-b) - 1 (+1) = 5 (+1) + b (-b)
6b = 6
6b/6 = 6/6
b = 1

hope this helps
