Y=mx+b (slope-intercept form)

3x+4y=1(example of a line in standard form)

PROBLEM 1: (5,-1), m=2
Step 1: put into slope intercept form(y=mx+b)
y=mx+b
(-1)=2(5)+b
-1=10+b
b= -11

y=2x-11

Step 2: convert to standard form
y=2x-11
-2x+y=-11(divide by -1 on both sides)
Answer: 2x-y=11

PROBLEM 2: (4,3), m=7
Step 1: put into slope intercept form(y=mx+b)
y=mx+b
(3)=7(4)+b
3=28+b
b= -25

y=7x-25

Step 2: convert to standard form
y=7x-25
-2x+y=-11(divide by -1 on both sides)
Answer: 7x-y= 25

PROBLEM 3: (-2,6), m=1
Step 1: put into slope intercept form(y=mx+b)
y=mx+b
(6)=1(-2)+b
6=-2+b
b= 8

y=x+8

Step 2: convert to standard form
y=x+8
-x+y=8 (divide by -1 on both sides)
Answer: x-y= -8

Try the last one on your own. If you need to check your answer, then I will tell you that I got 3x+y= -13.

Comment with any questions! hope this helped!
